What You Should Know About DSL Configuration

Dsl Configuration

If your concerned about your DSL configuration you need not be. It doesn't matter if you're a rank beginner or technically illiterate, you can get your connection up and running in no time provided you follow instructions and take the time to follow the documentation. If you're using a wireless connection, you should take some additional time to make sure you have dealt adequately with security protocols. The following provides some guidelines to consider when undertaking DSL setup configuration.

Usually, when you sign up for a DSL service, your service provider will send you the required setup instructions. This may or may not include hardware. You should have a modem and filter as hardware components prior to turning to the documentation. If you purchased a DSL service that does not include hardware you will need to purchase a modem and DSL filter. The filter is essential for clearing out static that can affect your telephone line and internet connection. There is nothing worse than being knocked off the internet continually or having an unclear line when having a telephone conversation. You should make sure you invest in a good filter to save this trouble.

The filter plugs into the phone socket and connects to modem. You just need to connect your modem to the correct port on your computer to complete the setup. If you are using a wireless connection, the DSL configuration process is similar.

The documentation that came with the DSL pack from your internet service provider should provide the necessary password, DSL config settings and passwords to begin the setup process. You may have been provided with a setup CD. In most cases, the setup CD provides a step by step wizard process that can be followed through to completion. You will need to reference the documentation and enter the required details when prompted. If you experience difficulties it is a good idea to have the phone handy so that you can make a phone call to your internet service provider if you run into trouble. You will most likely need to check the screen details to sort out any problems.

If you have a wireless DSL configuration setup, security is important. Wireless connection security settings are often overlooked and can expose the end user to bandwidth theft, identity theft or free reign on the terminal as a wireless hotspot. You should take precaution to change any router default settings and establish WEP or WPA2 encryption. The hardware documentation should provide this or you can consult the manufacturer's homepage.

If you follow these guidelines your DSL configuration should be a snap. You'll be up and surfing on the internet in no time.
